I dont get why Apple didn't make the base model to 16G which will probably cost them $10-12 but can jack up the base model by $60 and sell them like cakes. 8G is small niche market mostly for novice users. Truth is that we all know 8G would be enough 95% of the time but anyone with real technical experience wouldn't want to get anything less than 16G.

True, you basically have to spend 1600+ or else you are buying subpar equipment that will fail in 3 years //@anonymous: Apple no longer sells to the low income market. Not surprising to hear people complain that they can't afford it. But if you can afford it, it's an incredible value.

Very much agree! //@Anonymous: 8GB kills the deal.

Apple doesn’t do that. That sounds like a Lenovo strategy //@anonymous: They want the chip to overheat and fry so they can sell more mb’s in 3-4 years //@anonymous: Ram is so cheap these days but still Apple sells a premium price laptop with only 8GB. And that is suppose to be a deal.

Now, as you know, apple chips are not getting much better, partly because of lack of good engineers and the slow improvement over the 3/4nm node. So... getting M1 pro instead may be a better idea.

Previous gen M1 processors are a better value and should be more than sufficient for 70-80% of all users. If anything, Apple has bad marketing. No professional user is going to buy the MB with low specs, and no average user is going to spend $1.2K+ on it either. They should have significantly lowered the price, or not have an option with 8GB RAM/256GB storage.

1), M1 is super fast with no heat. 2), Mac is very efficient in using memory. I am a programmer converted from PC to MAC ~ 10 years ago, never look back. Of course, I bought a MacBook Pro, but I got a M1 MacBook Air for my son, he is very happy about it.

Ram doesn’t make the computers run faster. It makes you open more programs at once. The cpu clock makes the computer runs faster. ( i7 12700 has 5ghz clock, it makes the computer run faster than i5 cpu) You need to understand the basic functions first. //@anonymous: Ram is ram, built-in make it faster but that doesn’t make it larger //@anonymous: With M processors RAM is IN the M2 processor. Not entirely true. When you run out of ram, which is relatively easy to do with only 8gb,the computer is forced to use swap space which is basically your ssd drive. Swapping memory pages in and out of disk is slow. I'd much rather have a slightly slower cpu with more memory. //@anonymous: Ram doesn’t make the computers run faster. Your computer RAM is essentially short term memory where data is stored as the processor needs it. This isn't to be confused with long-term data that's stored on your hard drive, which stays there even when your computer is turned off.(info wouldn’t stay the your ram, the temporally memory pages are always on your SSD.) //@anonymous: Not entirely true. So many reports of Lenovo laptops breaking right after the warranty ends these days. Supply chain problems hitting the company, or just greedy design decisions?

BS,any device needs storage, APKs such as prime video, Hulu Kodi, sling use space. 8Gb fills up quickly. Again Roku does not tell you how much RAM and storage it provides. Any hickup of 4k movie streaming means crash. Roku has been taking advantage of ignorance for years.

Bought an ultra 4802X before the holidays. Worked well with my older, 720p TV, but for only a few weeks. Roku 4802x decided to do a software update in Dec and no longer support 720p TVs. Video had sound, but screen is black / blank. Called Roku customer support, they asked me to get a new TV that "supports" Roku! I was furious. I thought many people bought the Roku to support their TVs. I didn't realize that it was the other way around.

The only good thing about roku is Apple support. My roku(s) remotes decided to eat batteries every two weeks. Garbage!! Other than that, there are better android boxes out there. I feel even Fire TV stick is better than roku
