That is how T-mobile stores (independently run) work. Stores charge $30 activation fee for activation and upgrades (may waive if your buddy works there). And the phone is free to upgrade for qualifying accounts. I got 8 lines (they are free). If you have multiple cards that produce ultimate rewards, you can combine them into a single account, you may also be able to combine with your spouse. You can sign up for one of other cards that has a sign up bonus, but with less than a month, getting the card, meeting the spending limit and getting the bonus is unlikely. //@Anonymous: 50% here. I bought pixel 3a summer last year. Dropped it face down on my Spain trip and have a crack on the screen. Didn't change the phone. It has been working great for the past year - no complaints. Only problem is you cannot have too many apps open. At some point it spins on a new app. I just do a close all and start the new app. Every thing else is fantastic for the price. The camera, the viewing angle, sound, weight of the phone, everything.
I would totally recommend it.
